With two months completed the season is beginning to take shape and with September now over, it is time to reward the month’s standout performers, both in the dugout and on the pitch.
Football League sponsors npower are proud to reveal the nominations for both the npower Championship Manager and Player of the Month Awards for September. The winners will be announced on Friday 12th October 2012, with the final decision being made by two separate Football League judging panels.
The Manager of the Month award is decided by former Charlton Athletic manager Alan Curbishley, Football League Chief Operating Officer Andy Williamson, League Managers Association Deputy CEO Olaf Dixon and npower Sponsorship Manager Emma Collins. The Player of the Month panel sees Emma Collins joined by Wolves legend Don Goodman, BBC Sport’s Mark Clemmit and The Football League’s Head of Communications, John Nagle.
The nominations for the npower Championship Manager of the Month Award for September are:
Dougie Freedman (Crystal Palace)
With four wins and a draw, Dougie Freedman’s Crystal Palace top the form charts for September and are now well in contention to challenge for a play-off position. The popular Glaswegian has made a great impact at Selhurst Park and The Eagles’ faithful now have every reason to be optimistic for the rest of the season.
Malky Mackay (Cardiff City)
With four wins from their five September fixtures, Cardiff City are once again challenging for Premier League promotion. Under Malky Mackay’s tutelage, the Bluebirds finished September in second place, only trailing league leaders Brighton & Hove Albion on goal difference.
Nigel Pearson (Leicester City)
Now in his second spell with Leicester City, Nigel Pearson has had a great month with The Foxes, winning four and losing one of their five September fixtures. After a slow start, this run has pushed Leicester into the play-off positions and fans will be silently hopeful that this run will kick-start a concerted promotion challenge.
The nominations for the npower Championship Player of the Month Award for September are:
Glenn Murray (Crystal Palace) – striker
With more support up front this season from wingers Wilf Zaha and Yannick Bolasie, Murray’s natural link-up play and finishing had a crucial impact in September with six goals, four of them slotted calmly home from the penalty spot.
Bruno Saltor (Brighton & Hove Albion) – full-back
The Spanish veteran ignited the attacking play which took Brighton top of the npower Championship. Solid defensively, he created two goals in the 3-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday in a perfect month personally with maximum points from four games played.
Wes Morgan (Leicester City) – central defender
The rock at the heart of a Leicester defence, he has given the team a platform upon which to attack. Strong in the tackle, commanding in the air, Morgan gave authoritative performances all month and also posed a danger from set pieces.
