Having beaten Chelsea at Selhurst back in March, Eagles defender Joel Ward is hoping the club can repeat the trick next weekend against the Premier League leaders.
The victory against the Blues last season was the catalyst for Palace's superb end to the campaign which saw them pull away from the relegation zone, and Ward is using the confidence gained from that game to inspire him and his team-mates this time around.
After being asked if he thought Palace could mix it with the league's elite, he said: “We proved it last year, we held our own. I think we were unfortunate at the start of this season against Arsenal so hopefully we can replicate the same form we did last year against Chelsea and take a share of the points, if not all of them.
“At times during the season last year we had such strong belief and togetherness in the squad we wholeheartedly believed we could come through any opposition, we proved that by staying in the Premier League and finishing where we did."
One of the contributing factors of last season's victory over Jose Mourinho's side was the atmosphere generated at Selhurst Park that day, and Ward believes the crowd can play a part once again.
“It is incredible having the support that we do," he added. "Home and away we have proven to have some of the best fans in the country. Because of that, the players relish the opportunity to play against the best teams in the country and the world in fact, so hopefully we can retain 'Fortress Selhurst' and kick on from there.”
