After scoring an 84th minute winner for the Eagles this afternoon, Bakary Sako admitted that his debut was “like a dream”.
The Malian winger played the whole game on his first appearance for his new club and treated the Selhurst Park crowd to something special as he blasted home the winner past Brad Guzan to once again put his side ahead, after Scott Dann’s opener was cancelled out by a Pape Souare own goal.
Post-match, Sako showed his delight by saying: “I’m really happy to start here with that game, especially as I got the whole 90 minutes, we got the three points and I got one goal. It’s a dream day for me – I’m buzzing.
“I knew before the goal came that I was going to hit it so I was confident and very happy that it went in. Since I was young I’ve had a powerful left foot and that has helped me to score plenty of goals and get some assists.
“But the most important thing was the three points. The whole team wasn’t playing well during the first half but we tried to correct some of those mistakes in the second half and we did brilliantly to get our first goal. Even after they scored we got back into our shape and went on to score another good goal.”
The free transfer signing was also pull of praise for his teammate Dann who set up Sako after finding the net himself, and after getting a first taste of the famous SE25 atmosphere the winger is hoping that his performance today and the points gained can help the club’s fine start to the season continue next week at Chelsea.
“Scott was amazing today to get a goal and an assist, so I think we can safely say that he was man of the match today!” he added. “The atmosphere was also amazing, there was incredible support from the fans and I have to thank them for that.
“It’s very good to get six points out of nine so we’ve got to keep looking forward to get more points and working hard to get to where we want to go.”
