Yohan Cabaye has credited a resolute team performance as Palace took all three points against a battling Southampton side.
“It was a difficult game but we did the job and we stayed in good shape to stay resolute and get the win. Southampton have good quality in their team and at the end Wayne had to make some important saves. It’s always difficult when you’re just one nil up, but we stayed strong and solid and at the end we won which is the most important thing.”
Cabaye’s winning goal came just before half-time, and was finished after another strong run by Yannick Bolasie who produced an inch perfect cross into the six-yard box.
“Even with the wind, I think we played good football today. When my chance came I just tried to get in to the box and direct it on goal and luckily it went in.”
With the Eagles pinned back for much of the second-half, the Frenchman praised his team’s work ethic in seeing out the game.
“We had to make the effort and make the right choices at the right time as a team, because if one of us let our performance drop it would make it very difficult. We stayed altogether and that’s why we stayed strong.”
