DR Congo Take Third Place

Yannick Bolasie and the DR Congo squad won a penalty shoot out to win the Africa Cup of Nations third place play-off on Saturday evening.

DR Congo completed their best finish in the tournament since 1998 when defender Cedric Mongongu struck the winning penalty in the shoot-out after the game had finished 0-0.

 

A crowd of under 5,000 watched on as Bolasie had the best chance of the first-half but his shot went wide of the target.

 

As the second half got under way Dieumerci Mbokani, the tournament's joint top goal scorer on three goals, had a great chance to put DR Congo ahead but he shot straight at the goalkeeper.

 

Equatorial Guinea's best opportunity in normal time was from Emilio Nsue Lopez just before the hour mark but veteran goalkeeper Kidiaba was on hand to keep the score all square.
