Alan Pardew delivered some worrying injury news during his pre-Liverpool press conference on Friday afternoon, revealing that striker Dwight Gayle had suffered an injury in training, which could hamper his chances of featuring on Sunday.
Gayle has scored four goals in his three Premier League appearances against the Reds and looked set to hold on to his starting spot for the trip to Anfield this weekend. However, the manager was unsure whether the forward would be able to feature, with Connor Wickham and Marouane Chamakh both still working on their fitness after long-term spells on the sidelines.
"Connor he's not 100%, but he is back in training full time now, as is Chamakh," said the manager. "Both of those, it's (Liverpool) probably a little bit early.
"We have one other scare and that's Dwight Gayle, he might struggle to make this game. We'll see how he is tomorrow."
The gaffer did, however, confirm that left-back Pape Souare has recovered and would be back in action at Anfield on Sunday.
