The recent one month Euro 2016 tournament came to its conclusion with Portugal winning the event for the first time, beating the host nation, France, in the final played at the Stade de France.
Enjoying the honour of being part of that debut win for his country was winger, Nani, just days after completing his move to our pre-season opponents, Valencia.
Valencia, who come to Selhurst Park on August 6th, paid Fenerbahce Nani's £7.25 million buyout clause and joined on a three-year contract, just 12 months after leaving Manchester United.
Valencia appeared in the Champions League final in 1999 and 2000 and a 2004 UEFA Cup success, are among their notable achievements and Nani recongnises what a major club he has joined
"People think that when you win an important championship, you relax, but that is not my thinking. I'm very eager. This is a big club, with great fans. I want to be a part of this great club.
"My aim is to contribute in the best possible way, to help in every game I play and try to achieve our aims."
At his unveiling at the Mestalla stadium, that was attended by 12 000 fans, his pride for being part of a tournament win for his country was shining through.
"The European Championship was a unique experience, we made history. It was a dream come true and now I'm delighted because I have a new chapter to look forward to, with new aims to achieve.
"Valencia is the best option for me. It's an ideal club for me to be happy and prove my level. I wanted to play in La Liga."
