Jordon Mutch will be hoping to keep up his run of preseason form as he scored again for the Eagles in last night’s friendly game away to Colchester United.
Playing as a defensive midfielder, the goal came in the opening ten minutes of the first half, but Mutch says he’s just happy to be doing his job – wherever that is on the pitch.
“Obviously it’s nice, and to keep on winning, getting our fitness high, all the boys are getting fit and that’s the main thing.
“I want to be involved in play, whether that’s going forward or getting on the ball. I want to be in the middle of the pitch, making tackles and trying to score goals.”
With the team taking part in double training sessions whilst away on tour in the US, the intensity back home hasn’t subsided, and the player knows how important it is for the squad to be reaching the rights levels at the right time.
“All the boys are getting fit which is the main thing and hopefully we can keep on pushing now. We’ve got two weeks, and we’ll try and go into the first game of the season ready to rumble.”
With just over a week until Palace welcome Valencia to Selhurst Park, Mutch says the team are looking forward to facing Spanish opposition with a different style of play.
“It’ll be a tough game, it’s a different opposition. They like to keep the ball a lot and move it around and it’ll be a good last game going into the season.”
Palace play Valencia on Saturday 6th August, with the club offering free admission to under 12s attending with a paying adult.
