James McArthur’s second half goal was his side's third of the afternoon and helped seal a second consecutive top flight victory in this match against Stoke City who only came away with a last minute consolation goal.
“It was a very good performance at both ends of the pitch and it was disappointing at the end to concede the goal because the way the back four and the goalkeeper played deserved a clean sheet today.
“Today, like my goal before last, took a deflection but I am sure it was going into the top corner this afternoon anyway! It was really good to get one anyway and importantly as a team we got the three points.”
The victory moves the side up to eighth and continues the club’s move in the right direction.
“It is no secret that we are a club in transition but we are handling it well and since that second half a few weekends ago against Bournemouth we have turned the corner really. We are looking like we can beat anyone our day.
"Scott Dann’s equaliser against Bournemouth has certainly got us on our way after playing so well in the second half of that match. The amount of shots we got in during the second half of that match gave us a lot of confidence and then we went to Middlesbrough and got a good result. Then today we took it on again and got the result.”
James was delighted at how the performance showed the quality within the squad and can now see them building on this next week.
“When you have the pace in the side that we have we are so dangerous, we have pace and quality that is backed up by Christian being up top he becomes a point for us to hit and with him being at top clubs we know what he brings to our side.
“We need to kick on again, there is a great confidence in our dressing room and we go into our next Premier League game at Sunderland looking to continue the good work of the last couple of weeks.”
