Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew has made eight changes to his line-up for tonight’s EFL Cup third round game against Southampton at St Mary’s, with Yohan Cabaye returning to the side after missing the last two matches with a groin injury.
The Frenchman is one of a host of new faces in the Eagles side, with Scott Dann, Wilfried Zaha and Joel Ward the only survivors from the XI that started on Sunday against Stoke City, with the Palace captain making his 100th appearance for the club tonight.
With James Tomkins injured Damien Delaney returns, and there is a first game in nearly exactly two years for Zeki Fryers who impressed in pre-season and gets a game at left-back.
As well as Cabaye, injury victims Connor Wickham and Bakary Sako also return, with the Malian playing his first game of the campaign, and Wayne Hennessey is given the nod in goal.
There is a familiar face in between the sticks for the Saints with Alex McCarthy making his first appearance since swapping Selhurst for St Mary’s in July, and is one of eight changes to their team that beat Swansea City on Sunday.
The only players to start both games are Shane Long, Jordy Clasie and another ex-Eagle in captain Jose Fonte, with the weekend’s matchwinner Charlie Austin given a start by Claude Puel.
