Sam Allardyce described the club’s run of winning six of their last eight games, including three against top six sides, as the best spell in his managerial career.
With two home games in three days this week the manager he is keen for the form to continue and knows they will need to keep the focus to ensure they continue to look up the table rather than worry about teams below themselves.
"Some of the best results I've had in my long career as a manager in the Premier League, in terms of an eight-game period, given who we've beaten and how we've done it, Chelsea and Liverpool away, Arsenal at home,
"The players have done a fantastic job but I just hope they don’t come off the gas and think we've done it. We took advantage of West Brom on that basis after they had hit 40 points and won that game comfortably 2-0 so I hope the game is big enough on Wednesday to ensure that they don’t take their foot off the gas.”
That winning run has moved his side seven points clear of the bottom three and he is delighted with the response he has had from the players in recent weeks.
“We did need that kind of form to get out of trouble and with us still not out of it even after these results shows what the players have done to keep fighting and have had the desire to get out of the predicament they were in with the guidance of everyone behind the scenes and I must say they have grasped it superbly well.”
