Ahead of Sunday's game at Anfield, Jurgen Klopp has been giving his views on two former Liverpool players who are now enjoying plying their trade down in SE25. Mamadou Sakho is not eligible for the match against his club but the Red’s boss has been keeping a close eye on his progress since his loan period started at the end of January.
"He is a good player and of course we see all the games, Mama is a very good defender. He is a strong boy with good tackles and blocks. Having him not involved isn't the best news for Palace but there is nothing else to say about it." Klopp told the media at his pre-match press conference as he was asked about the defender's spell down in south London.
At the other end of the pitch he has been impressed with the attacking options available to Sam Allardyce in recent weeks. "Crystal Palace are really strong with unbelievable skills in offensive lines. (Wilfried) Zaha, (Andros) Townsend, Christian, (Jason) Puncheon, they are really good footballers. When the ball is in the air Christian is a major threat and he is another player with confidence on a good run.
"If we let them cross 50 balls it’s pretty likely he will have some dangerous headers. When balls are in the air he's the main threat. He has 14 goals for Palace. He has confidence and is in a good run. That is one of the best offensive lines in the Premier League.
"We know how to play against them but nevertheless we have to show it."
Palace come up against a side challenging for one of the top four places but Klopp has injury concerns for the game, particularly in the back line.
"We have to find a solution for the weekend, Joe Gomez played again for under 23s this week. Maybe we will try him.
"I am not 100 per cent that Matip/Lucas/Klavan will be out but they are not training in this moment."
