Mamadou Sakho took his place at the heart of the Palace defence on Saturday afternoon as he was given a debut by Sam Allardyce and was delighted to be part of the team that took the three points against Middlesbrough.
"We played very well as a team, gave a strong performance and deserved the three points in a really difficult game. It was great though to come away with the win and we played with real heart to get the result.
"It was a really good finish from Patrick (van Aanholt) and was a goal that came about because the whole squad was working hard and played well as a group together and to see us get the win is a real positive."
The victory saw the 27 year old make his first Premier League appearance since April and the defender was delighted to play his part in the victory.
"My last game was ten months ago but during this time I have been working hard on my fitness and after my performance today it has all been worthwhile. I am really proud to be involved in this victory and from my point of view it is always about me giving my best when I am out on the pitch for the club, the team and the supporters."
The match was his first experience of playing in front of the home crowd in red and blue and the centre-half, on loan from Liverpool, was full of admiration for the support the side received from the stands.
"We played 12 against 11 in this game because the fans were really good for us and they gave us a lot of courage and confidence to go on and play with a lot of energy and it was nice to get the result for them."
