As the Eagles bid farewell to Hong Kong, Frank de Boer believes that visiting the country and playing in the Premier League Asia Trophy has been beneficial for him and his team.
The Eagles finished third in the competition following their 2-0 defeat to Liverpool on Wednesday and beating West Bromwich Albion by the same scoreline, but rather than worrying about where his side finished, the Dutchman believes the week-long trip has paid dividends in terms of getting his pre-season messages across to his players, and handing him the opportunity to see the majority of his squad in match action first-hand.
When asked to reflect on the tour, he said: “We’ve had some good meetings and we’ve analysed the game against Liverpool, and we’ll do the same after this game. We’ve talked to the group about everything we want and expect, and what we want as Crystal Palace, so overall it was a very good trip.
“Everyone has now played some minutes and they all know what it’s like to play in this system, and from that we can build on everything further. We have to still improve, but it gives us confidence that we can build from here.”
