Three Eagles Up For Premier League Awards

A trio of Crystal Palace personnel are in the running to pick up one of the Premier League’s top monthly prizes for their efforts during March.


Eagles boss Sam Allardyce has been nominated for the Barclays Manager of the Month after steering the Eagles to consecutive wins against West Bromwich Albion and Watford, making it three victories from his last three games.


He is up against Bournemouth’s Eddie Howe and Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp who both picked up seven points from three matches, as well as Chelsea boss Antonio Conte, Craig Shakespeare of Leicester City and Mauricio Pochettino of Tottenham who won two out of two.


Meanwhile, Palace have also been recognised in the EA Sports Player of the Month category, with Mamadou Sakho put forward for the prize after the January arrival helped his new teammates claim back-to-back clean sheets at The Hawthorns and against the Hornets.


Standing in his way are Joshua King of Bournemouth and Everton hitman Romelu Lukaku who scored four times each during the month, Liverpool’s Gini Wijnaldum and Southampton’s Nathan Redmond who netted twice, and Cherries keeper Artur Boruc who made 12 saves and kept a clean sheet.


And completing the hat-trick of Palace representatives is Andros Townsend, who is one of the contenders for the Carling Goal of the Month award for his superb 80-yard solo run against West Brom.


Up against him is Fernando Llorente’s towering header for Swansea City against Burnley, Hull City’s Oumar Niasse’s composed finish against the Swans, Harry Kane’s superb strike against Everton, Eden Hazard’s counter-attack goal for Chelsea at West Ham and Jesse Lingard’s thunderbolt in Manchester United’s win against Middlesbrough.

In deciding the winners, a panel of experts including Premier League legends and media personalities cast their votes, as well all 20 top-flight captains. The public’s votes cast in each category will represent 10% of the total votes and will be combined with those of the panel to determine the winners which will be announced on Friday 31st March.
