Chris Coleman’s Wales side picked up a vital 1-0 victory against Austria and sit third in their World Cup qualifying group, now four points off group leaders Serbia, and two behind Republic of Ireland, with three games remaining.
Wayne Hennessey’s clean sheet was added to by the only goal of the game from Ben Woodburn on 69 minutes. Within five minutes of entering the game as a second half substitute he got on the end of a poor clearance and fired the ball past the goalkeeper into the net from 25 yards out.
Hal Robson-Kanu and Gareth Bale had late chances to extend the lead for the home side but even though they were not taken, these opportunities were an example of how Wales were on top and picked up a deserved victory.
Jonny Williams, who completed a loan to Sunderland on Thursday, was an unused substitute for Coleman’s side.
