Palace’s Jordon Mutch bagged his first goal of loan spell with Vancouver Whitecaps as they beat Chicago Fire 3-2 on Sunday.
The midfielder scored his first MLS goal in the 47th minute of the clash at BC Place in Vancouver as the Whitecaps recorded their first win in three to get back on track in the Western Conference.
Former Norwich City striker Kai Kamara opened the scoring before the Fire – containing Bastian Schweinsteiger in their ranks – equalised just before half-time through Nemanja Nikolic.
However, Mutch’s big moment came two minutes after the restart. He broke clear to latch onto a ball from midfield before rounding Richard Sanchez in the Fire goal, composing himself and tucking the ball into the net to put his team back in front.
Kamara added his second on 72 minutes, but despite Tony Tchani pulling one back with nine minutes to go, Carl Robinson’s team clung on to claim the three points which leave them 6th in their conference, just inside the play-off places.
Speaking after getting his name on the scoresheet for the first time in nine appearances for the Caps, Mutch said: "It is first and foremost good that we got the win that we needed, and obviously it is nice to get a goal. It is obviously a nice feeling, but the game is done now and I'll take that and enjoy it, but we move on now for next week.”
On his goal, he added: “The ball wasn’t sitting right and I had to wait. In the crowd people were getting nervous but I just had to wait for it to settle and put it in.”
