Jairo Riedewald played the first forty-five minutes of Saturday’s pre-season 4-0 victory against Reading as he once again took up the central midfield role with the battle for Premier League places up for grabs in the Palace squad.
The 21 year old was replaced at half time by the returning Luka Milivojevic but the Netherlands born midfielder was happy with the display that led to the win against the Championship side.
“It was an entertaining game, in the first half we were searching for the right moment to score a goal and had a few chances whilst they also had a few counter attacks but in the second half we took control and it must have been a nice game to watch.”
Riedewald has been part of most of the action in pre-season and is hoping he has shown the manager enough that he picks up a continued run in the side to add to his 15 appearances last season.
“I always want to play and this pre-season I have played a lot of minutes and am happy with that. I just want to show the gaffer what I can do. The defensive midfield position suits me well so hopefully I can get more opportunity in that position.
“I am feeling good and I think the rest of the team do as well. We have played some positive games and the fitness is looking fine so we are happy with how things are progressing.”
Having seen the side in action wearing the new 2018/19 season kit some fans have commented on how Riedewald has appeared not to look the same as his team mates in the popular shirt, we took the chance to ask him the reason behind him looking different in the Palace Fade Stripe.
“This year we have a tight fit shirt but I prefer to play in a normal fit so I asked the kit man whether he can bring a different style for me so that is why it looks extra baggy when I am playing.“
