Crystal Palace Under-23s defender Martin Onoabhagbe reflected on a 4-1 victory over Colchester United this afternoon following his step up to Richard Shaw's side from the Under-18s.
At 1-1, the game was quite even until Kian Flanagan made the score 2-1. From there, Palace were the dominant side and won the game comprehensively.
Reflecting on the match, Onoabhagbe said, "It was good. We started off a bit slowly, but towards the end in the second half we really pushed each other well and got back into the game.
"Those boys [the Under-23s side] are really well adjusted, they can play in different positions. But because I was the main centre-back I had to rally them together, give good commands and make sure everyone knows their jobs.
"I'm a simple centre-back, I do the basics well, pass the ball, get in for my tackles, head the ball far. I just do everything simply."
The match was Onoabhagbe's first start for the Under-23s, having excelled all season for the Under-18s. Assessing the difference in difficulty, he said, "The Under-18s are really good, we're unfortunate to not be doing well so far but we're going to keep trying to push ourselves. The Under-23s are a lot different, the football's that bit faster and it's just been a good experience."
