Crystal Palace’s first clash of the pre-season sees a previously un-tested starting XI set to kick off against FC Luzern, with Development players Luke Dreher and Sam Woods making the starting lineup alongside the likes of Jaïro Riedewald, Connor Wickham and Christian Benteke.
Riedewald will likely drop in at centre back for Roy Hodgson’s men alongside long-serving clubman Scott Dann, who returns for the Eagles after missing the final day of the 2018/19 season through injury.
Conversely, 20-year-old Dreher picks up exactly where he left off in the last campaign by starting in the centre of midfield following his Premier League debut against the Cherries last May.
Max Meyer and Andros Townsend add the attacking flair to a midfield four with Luka Milivojevic, naturally, at its heart.
The powerful combination of Wickham and Benteke leading the Palace charge was not seen for the entirety of last season due to the pair’s ongoing injury issues however the partnership will be in exhibition this evening.
Wayne Hennessey starts between the sticks and, looking to the bench, new signing Stephen Henderson makes the squad as the substitute shot-stopper. He is joined by Development prospects James Daly, Tyrick Mitchell, Nya Kirby and Kian Flanagan, the Under-23s’ Player of the Season. Alexander Sørloth also makes the Palace squad having returned to the Eagles from his loan spell with Gent.
