Ahead of Palace's first away trip of the new season, Hodgson discussed the impressive form on the road and offered reasons for the difference in results at Selhurst Park: "It’s [away form] to do with how open the game gets and the type of players that we have are suited to the counter-attacking game: opponents come forward and leave space behind and they're quite good at exploiting those spaces.
"Sometimes at Selhurst Park, because the players and the team have done quite well and you build up a reputation of a hard team to beat, sometimes the teams come here a bit more prudent in how they approach the game from when they’re at home. It may just be as simple as that."
Scoring a minimum of three goals in five of their last Premier League games, plus seeing the likes of Wilfried Zaha scoring six league goals across the last seven away games in the top-flight for the Eagles means Hodgson is positive when discussing Palace's goalscoring threat for the season:
"We think there are more goals in the team than we were able to show last year, it’s up to the players, who are our front players and goalscorers, to show that.
"I think as the season wore on we became better at scoring goals and taking our chances and I’m hoping that is going to continue and get even better this season."
