And Manager Pierre Sage says that, as Tuesday’s Carabao Cup win over Middlesbrough at Selhurst Park proved, there is room for the Eagles to improve defensively – but, given the frequency of matches, he expects his team to do so.
Sage told the embargoed section of his press conference: “We are aware of our problems, especially defensive problems. We have problems when we press, we have problems when we are in the low block. That's why we need to work a lot.
“I changed the back three for the game on Tuesday. It was about the freshness of the players. I know to improve as a team, as a line, they have to play together again. That's why we need time.
“In sessions, in videos, there's a lot of ways to improve, and the players have to be open for that. With the wins, you have always more ears from the players. It's easier to improve the way of defending and all things too.
“But for the moment, we know it’s a problem. We know we have to resolve it quickly.”
