Palace start their Carabao Cup campaign tonight with a trip to Wales and a match against Championship side Swansea City.
The Swans lifted the League Cup trophy in 2013 and since then have won six of the 11 ties they have played in the competition, and are unbeaten against the Eagles in their last six meetings.
In last season’s competition Roy Hodgson’s side went out against Bristol City after progressing into round four after victories against Ipswich Town and Huddersfield Town.
Swans’ Unbeaten Run Ended
Swansea City suffered a first defeat of the season last weekend after defeat against Bristol City.
Andreas Weimann put the away side ahead after just 31 seconds, and they had keeper Erwin Mulder to thank for keeping the margin to just the single goal.
The home side put in an improved showing in the second period and came close to getting the game back on level terms but Mike van der Hoorn had a late header cleared off the line which meant that Graham Potter’s side suffered their first reverse of the new season.
Swansea go into tonight’s cup tie in 10th place with eight points from their opening five Championship games.
View From The Opposition
Graham Potter: “We will try to win the game – we will always try to do that. We will try to approach the game in a respectful way and we will try to get a positive result.”
“We are up against a Premier League team so it will be a tough test. They had a game on Sunday so I imagine they will make a few changes, if not the whole team.
“For us it’s a chance to get back out on to the pitch, and you need that sometimes after a defeat.”
Team News
Swansea: The Swans will be without midfielder Jay Fulton after he broke a bone in his hand in the defeat against Bristol City whilst defender Cameron Carter-Vickers, who has joined on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, is also out with injury while striker Oli McBurnie is set to be rested.
Palace: Roy Hodgson is expected to make a number of changes as the side only played on Sunday but striker Jordan Ayew is ineligible to face his parent club.
Summer signings Vicente Guaita, Cheikhou Kouyate and Max Meyer have all been on the bench of late but could be named in tonight's starting eleven.
Match Officials
Taking charge tonight is John Brooks, who has five games to his name this season and has shown 30 yellow cards and one red.
The assistant referees are Andrew Fox and Adam Matthews and the fourth official is Lee Swabey.
Matchday Stats
Palace have won five of their previous meetings with Swansea, losing 13 and drawing 11 of those.
The Swans reached round four of the Carabao Cup last season when they were knocked out by Manchester United.
The Eagles have reached the semi-finals of the League Cup on four occasions, the last time being in 2011/12 when Cardiff City stopped them progressing to the final for the first time.
Palace’s last victory at the Liberty Stadium saw them win 3-1 with goals coming from Victor Moses, Jose Fonte and Shefki Kuqi.
