“It was a good game and the boys did really well and we set up defensively, being really compact and I have been working on being in a good position at the right time and thankfully it paid off for me so really delighted.
“We got at them fast, that was the game plan to try and turn them round and as soon as we got the goal to see it out defensively, just hold our shape and it all worked and that was good,” said the 18 year old as he spoke to Palace TV after the match at Copers Cope.
For the under 18s side Daly plays out wide on the left hand side but in this line up he plays in what he regards as more his natural position, a central attacking role, and the youngster is enjoying learning at this level as he competes in the development league.
“Ever since I was little since I started off I was a striker, then got moved out to the left for various reasons but I feel like I play my best game up front and like that position better than any of the others.
“It’s very tough, physically I feel like the demands are much more and technically as well. You have to concentrate at all times but I feel like I have to keep on working and its still work in progress.”
Daly’s third of the afternoon saw him head home a Aaron Wan-Bissaka cross from the right hand side, a pleasing goal for the youngster as it’s a move that Richard Shaw’s side have been working on in training.
“That was a great goal, he put in a cross and I got in at the near post, it’s something we have been working on, getting near post runs and he put it on a plate for me so it was all good."
Shaw coached Daly in his younger days at under 16 level and the hat-trick hero is pleased to link up with him again as he feels that the former Palace defender brings the best out of his game.
“He knows my strengths and weaknesses better than anyone so it is really good to work with him. He is a brilliant man manager and I feel I try my best under him.”
