City sit at the top of the table after four wins and a draw in their first five including finding the net sixteen times but the defender knows that confidence is not an issue for the Palace squad as they make the trip north for their return to Premier League action.
“The start has been disappointing but everyone remains positive and is working hard to ensure we can turn the current situation around. We have an experienced manager who has a philosophy about the type of football he wants us to play and the training sessions have been good so I am looking forward to working under him.
“It’s important that the squad stays together and works for one another to get through this current run of results.
“Obviously we are all aware of the form that our opponents are in at the moment but as a group of players you always have to go into the games in a confident frame of mind and that is exactly what we will do. They have a very good group of players and as one of the top clubs they will be seen as strong favourites for the Premier League title.”
Sergio Aguero has hit at least 20 league goals for the last three seasons and the Argentine is three goals away from becoming Manchester City's all-time record scorer.
He has already scored seven goals in five starts this campaign and is a player that Fosa-Mensah knows will be a main threat on Saturday afternoon.
“He’s a very clever player with experience and someone whose record speaks for itself. As a player against him you have to concentrate for 90 minutes because he is so sharp and can make things happen in a game very quickly.”
After the trip to the Etihad the squad face a return journey up the M6 to face Manchester United next week and then a home game against Chelsea but Fosa-Mensah is sure that the squad’s strengths will show through as they look to climb the table over the next few weeks.
“We have a lot of quality players within our squad and have shown in the last couple of games that with some good fortune we could have got something from them so personally speaking I am very confident that we have what it takes to start climbing the table.
“Last season this group of players went to Chelsea and Liverpool towards the end of season and achieved a good result so anything is possible. “
Amongst the loan spell at Palace already this season the 19 year old made his international debut for Netherlands in the 4-0 defeat against France but he was one of the visiting sides to come out of the game with credit.
It was hardly the start Timothy Fosu-Mensah was looking for in his debut for Holland but he did at least emerge with some credit from their 4-0 defeat in France. This international start and a loan in SE25 means the 19 year old still has positives to reflect on so far this season.
“I am using the opportunity to get game time in the Premier League and gain more experience, I am keeping in contact with Manchester United and I know that their coaching staff are monitoring my progress so I am just hoping all goes well for me.
“It was tremendous to get the opportunity to make my debut last month for the Netherlands and I am just looking to build my international career on from there and hopefully be a regular in the team. There is a lot of competition for places but we all know that is what it is like in this game and I am ready for the challenge.“
