The defender spoke following the frustrating clash, suggesting that while it is nice for him to get on the scoresheet, it's the result which matters and that his side were unfortunate not to take more from their offensive efforts.
He said: "Obviously it's always nice to pop up with a goal. I think at 2-1 we were looking dangerous to maybe get back into the game and get another. It's nice to get a goal but the result is what matters. Unfortunately today, the first half wasn't our best but in the second half we were a lot more competitive and we caused them issues and asked questions of them.
"It's unfortunate we didn't capitalise on our pressure and get another. We had a few chances and we were flooding the box and creating things."
Looking forward, Ward spoke about a crucial run of fixtures over the next few weeks for Palace but explained that today's result can boost them rather than flatten them before facing Burnley and Brighton respectively.
"We'll take each game as it comes," he said. "We've got a huge game on the weekend and a massive game following that, not just for the league but for the club as well. We'll just take each game as it comes and take the positives from today, especially the second half. I thought we did really well in the second half and that's what we've got to take into the next run of games.
"We know we've got the quality, we've got the squad and we've got the depth in numbers. We certainly cause teams issues, you saw that against Leicester and you saw that tonight for periods of the game."
