McArthur and Bakary Sako came off the bench to be the men to seal the points and move the club out of the bottom three.
The 30 year old Scotland international was on the end of a pass from Wilfried Zaha in added time and he made no mistake as he calmly slotted the ball home past Heurelho Gomes into the bottom corner of the net.
“Wilfried done brilliant as he has done all season and fortunately it took a deflection on its way to me and thankfully it went in, “ said McArthur as he took a moment to savour what had happened as Palace showed once again they can never be written off in the battle for crucial points.
“They are a good side and played really well tonight but we’ve dug in there and showed great character. We’ve done that at home before and we did it again and it’s very important how we have bounced back tonight.”
McArthur’s fifth goal of the season meant The Eagles take four points from their two home games within four days and the substitute believes these three could mean so much.
“It’s a very important win for us and to come back in the manner that we did towards the end and score the goals meant it was a great night all round.”
