Crystal Palace have been handed the LMA's LG Performance of the Week award for their 4-0 win against Hull City, which gave them the vital points needed to ensure they would be playing a fifth consecutive season in the Premier League
Eagles boss Sam Allardyce was handed the accolade at the club’s training ground after the judging panel comprising LMA Chairman Howard Wilkinson, Sir Alex Ferguson, Joe Royle, Dave Bassett and Barry Fry, decided that the Eagles' victory was the stand out performance.
In that final home match any pre-match fears were alleviated thanks to a composed finish by Wilfried Zaha just two minutes into the encounter, with Christian Benteke adding a second in typical fashion on 34 minutes. After the break, Luka Milivojevic dispatched a penalty before Patrick van Aanholt tucked home late on to ensure the Eagles top flight stay was to continue.
On collecting the award Allardyce said that he was delighted to end the season in the way the side did against Hull City. "We were all very satisfied with the way we secured our Premier League status, quality of performance and the way we executed our game plan. The players, backroom staff and everyone at the club enjoyed what was a very nervous day to start with but ended up a very happy one for everyone concerned.
"In the end the fans saw a fantastic last home game and we can look forward to next season in the Premier League.
"We scored four very good goals, one being a penalty but that came from a fantastic run by Jeffrey Schlupp. The all important thing was the start to the game, we had to be the team to score the first goal and we were and in the end Hull City lost a bit of spirit and were well beaten.
"We always knew we had the most difficult run-in compared to the other teams and looking back at it if we hadn’t beaten Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool we would have been relegated so that’s how big those results were and during that run we were at the peak of our performance and could have taken anyone on in the Premier League at that stage. We were then hit by a few injuries and dipped away a little bit but came back strong against Hull City."
