Sako has been frustrated with hamstring injuries in recent times but was pleased to be given the chance to be part of this third round tie and reflected after the game on a good night's work by the side.
“I think we played really well tonight and for me it was a good for me to be playing up front. It’s obviously not my first choice position but I did play there a few times when I first joined Palace and enjoy the opportunity of playing there.
“It was a good team performance and as a group we have put a lot of time into our training sessions to try and turn things around. I think we showed a lot of confidence in our game and that reflected in our performance because I thought we played some great stuff to get the result.”
The second half appearance of Pape Souare was an emotional one for all connected with the club and Bakary spoke of the delight of his team mates to see the Senegalese defender back in the red and blue.
“I am really happy for him, he was up against the thought of nearly ending his career and now he is fit and back playing. As a group we are all really happy to see him be part of the side once again.”
One of the late deals on the final hours of the summer transfer window saw another defender, Mamadou Sakho, complete his permanent move to Palace and after some game time for Richard Shaw’s development side he was ready to play his part in this victory.
He is someone that the goalscorer on the night believes can play a vital role in the team’s fortunes in the forthcoming weeks ahead.
“It is massive for us to have him back and in the game he showed his confidence and I think will certainly give the team a lift. As a player defensively he is good at reading how the other team are playing and going forward can always pick out the vital pass so he will be really important for us."
