Sako’s fifth goal of the season came on a night where he got the opportunity to start the game as Roy Hodgson was forced into a number of changes due to injuries but even though he got on the scoresheet it was to end with a disappointing exit from the competition.
“It was so frustrating to concede so late in the game with us doing so well to come back into the match with the lads working so hard so as you can imagine the dressing room is filled with a disappointed group of lads tonight.
“I scored a similar goal to the one I got tonight a few years ago, I am comfortable playing on my right foot so as soon as I saw the opportunity I took my chance and lucky for me it went into the net.
“I have been waiting for the opportunity to play and I got that tonight because of injuries within the squad and it gave me and others the chance to play and personally speaking it was good to get ninety minutes of game time under my belt.”
Even though the 29 year old had his own personal delight of the strike from 25 yards he was frustrated to be going out of the competition but knows that the emphasis for the second half of the season was always going to be on the league programme starting with the visit of Burnley on Saturday afternoon.
"Every time the gaffer plays me I am trying to do my best and that is exactly what I was looking to do tonight but from a team point of view it’s frustrating because we did well second half and to end the night out of the FA Cup is hard to take.
“We are soon back to the league action so we need to recover well and get back on the training pitch and be ready for the weekend."
Just over 2000 Palace fans were at the game and once again the striker was delighted to have the chance to join the red and blue army in celebrating another goal to his name.
“I am getting along well with the Palace fans so it was nice to get the goal and get over with them and take the chance to celebrate again with our supporters."
