A year on from the car accident that saw him suffer a broken leg & jaw he continued his comeback and after some action with the Under 23s he was ready to move on to the next level and be part of a night that saw the club progress into the fourth round of the competition.
“It feels great and I am very happy to be running on the pitch today but I am also pleased that we got the win and its one that makes me very happy for the fans. They keep supporting the team and from a personal point of view have been great with how they have helped me and I would like to thank them for their support.
“I am just taking my recovery step by step, this one sees me back in the first team, which is different to playing ninety minutes for the under 23 side. This cup tie was forty five minutes playing at this level so I am just working hard day to day and trying to get my fitness back. “
The outcome of the night’s action was decided by the 12th minute goal from Bakary Sako and Pape was pleased to see the 29 year old back in action after his own injury problems.
“He has had a lot of frustrations with injuries as well so it is good that he is back playing and he scored the deciding goal which makes it fantastic for everyone as we got the result we wanted."
Mamadou Sakho made his first appearance for the first team since joining the club on a permanent basis as he completed 70 minutes of action and Souare was delighted to join him in the backline when he made his second half entrance into the game.
“Everyone knows how well he did here at the end of last season and as well as being a good defender he is also a good example to everyone on and off the field so it is nice to have him back and also have the opportunity to be back playing with him in defence."
