“Today was another match where we have failed to take our chances, that has been the theme so far this season but ultimately we haven’t got any points and that needs to change.
“It’s never a good way to start a game, conceding away from home in the first few minutes but I do think we dealt with it extremely well. We did well to put it behind us and then went on and had chances to score and level the game but it just didn’t happen for us.”
Palace came out of this match still to register their first goal or point of the season but the winger knows that the feeling in the dressing room is one of confidence that the poor run can be turned round.
“In this match we created a lot of clear cut chances and I think we should have got at least one and possibly two goals but we didn’t and this game is a results based business and it means we lose another game unfortunately.
“We have full confidence in our abilities and even when we had gone 1-0 down we didn’t let it get to us and just kept working away. We have been here before last season where we went 2-0 down here at Burnley and come back so we knew it was possible but we just couldn’t find a way through.”
Palace will look to open their account at home next Saturday with the visit of Southampton and Townsend believes that after another week’s preparation and the squad will be ready to go again.
“We will look at the performance and need to learn from what has happened in this game and we have a big week’s training ahead of us to come before having that opportunity in the next game to put it right.
“In the first four games we have shown the qualities that we have but from the results it is clear that it hasn’t gone our way but we do need to start picking up points as soon as possible."
