The Palace winger was delighted post-match as he was pleased to see the side get their rewards for another good team performance.
“It is definitely one of our best away performances of the season, we knew it was going to be difficult coming off the back of three good performances against top teams and we knew if we were complacent then Huddersfield would punish us. Thankfully everyone was fully focused and we got the win which was the most important thing.
“The fact that we did lose two of the last three in the last minute proved that we can mix it with the best in the league which gives us massive confidence knowing that we can come here and play to our potential we can get three points and I think we thoroughly deserved it today."
Having conceded those late goals in recent matches it was pleasing for the 26 year old to see a clean sheet chalked up and he believes that once again the whole team should take the credit for the defensive side of their game in the victory.
“We defended brilliantly from Wayne Hennessey, the defence through to the front three, everyone did their jobs today and if you are going to pick up wins away from home then you need everyone pulling in the right direction and we did that today. We now need to keep that going for the final seven games."
The long injury list has been a headache for Roy Hodgson in recent weeks but with players now coming back Townsend believes that the return to action will give the side a crucial boost in the final weeks of the season.
“We have some fantastic players who were on the bench today making their comeback, Yo, Ruben and Wilf & Mama back in the starting eleven. It’s a fantastic boost for us and the boys that stepped in during their absence did fantastically as well so we have got everyone vying for places and it's good for competition."
Townsend won the penalty that resulted in Palace’s second goal when he was felled by Martin Jorgensen and this time it was given because 12 minutes earlier the same Huddersfield player had a shout against him for an alleged foul on Christian Benteke but referee Mike Dean waved play on. A decision that the Palace player felt was the correct call.
“I didn’t appeal for that one as I didn’t feel there was much in it but the second one was definitely a penalty and Luka did what Luka does best and he slotted it away and we are delighted,” said Townsend on a day that he was delighted for the travelling support to be going home with maximum points.
“I can’t speak highly enough of them, when you wake up and see snow in your back garden to then make the trip up north is incredible support for the team and we are grateful for them. If we are going to stay up we are going to need their support for the last seven games.”
The result moved Hodgson’s side out of the bottom three but it’s not a position in the table that Andros is taking too much notice of at this stage of the season.
“We know it’s kind of a false position with teams underneath us having games in hand but you would rather the points on the board than playing catch up so yes we are delighted to be out the bottom three but I know there is a long way to go yet.”
