“We knew it would be a tough game even though it was the last one of the season but we came out and got the win which was the important thing.
“They have done really well recently and won a couple of games and got some draws so they were always going to come and play well even though they are already relegated but we stuck to our plan and got the win.”
Three goals in three games was a good finish for Van Aanholt in a strong end to the season as he made the left back slot his own having completed 27 Premier League appearances this campaign.
“It’s good to score goals and I want to be there for the team so if I can do that it’s a plus for me and I am happy and it was great to support the team in that way.
“We have a few left backs and the competition is there but I have showed that I am the one who deserves to play there both in training and in games.”
Another sell-out crowd witnessed the sixth match of an unbeaten run and the 27 year old was full of praise for the support they have shown with a top half finish to celebrate.
“From the start of the game to the last one they have been outstanding and brilliant. They stuck behind the team even at the start when things were not going well.”
Patrick emphasised at the end of the game that it has been a complete team effort to reach eleventh place but wanted to pay special attention to Player of the Year, Wilfried Zaha, and also Ruben Loftus-Cheek, as his loan moves comes to a close.
“We all know how good, talented and passionate Wilf is about the game so I am not surprised that he has got the award three times in a row but the whole side has done a great job this season so there are many deserving the praise in this team.
“Ruben is a player who is talented and shown that during his on loan from Chelsea but he has had bad luck with injuries but came back strongly and finished the season very well.”
Roy Hodgson left the field to a standing ovation from the home support having turned around the season from when he arrived in September and the Eagles left back believes the manager and squad have proved a good fit.
“The manager is someone who has a lot of experience and knows what to expect from this team after seeing us in training and in games. We have showed how we work well with him and he has proved he is a good manager.”
