Saturday saw him put in a commanding performance as the side made the perfect start to the season with a 2-0 victory at Craven Cottage and the Eagles defender paid tribute to man of the match, Wayne Hennessey.
“It’s always the aim to get a win on your first game and from that you gain confidence to go into the next game in a positive mind-set.
“Playing away from home in the first game we knew it would be a bit tough. It’s different from a pre-season game because you don’t get much time on the ball and the game keeps flowing but we just had to get through it.
“Wayne Hennessey was superb and I want to give credit to him for how he played to get us a clean sheet as well.
“We outplayed them in the second half where we had a lot of chances and we took a couple of them to secure the goals.”
The goal just before half time from Jeffrey Schlupp gave the visitors a perfect boost going into the break, “I always knew he was clinical in the box so I trusted him when he was in front of goal,” said Wan-Bissaka as he explained his role to provide the assist for the effort which sealed the opening three points of the season.
“The ball came to me and I controlled it under pressure, got fouled but back straight up quickly and went past one and then saw Wilf in space so slid him in and I was confident he was going to score. I enjoy attacking and defending as I used to be a winger so it’s still in my game a bit and it’s always good to get an assist as well.”
Attention for the right back now turns to next Monday’s match against Liverpool as he just aims to carry on producing performances that will continue to catch the eye of those watching The Eagles campaign.
“I’m excited to be going back to playing at Selhurst. It’s going to be a challenge but we are at home and we will have our fans there which will help and boost us into the game.
“Every season is a big season for me, I’m just going to keep my head down and keep working hard and see where it takes me.”
