### Eagle-Eyed Review

It has been almost two months since Palace last featured in Premier League 2 action. In that time, Darren Powell’s side have balanced a demanding schedule that included Premier League International Cup fixtures, a programme of behind-closed-doors friendlies and the winter break.

The young Eagles’ most recent league outing came in early November, when they played out a 2-2 draw with Stoke City at the Academy. On that occasion, Kaden Rodney converted a stoppage-time penalty to earn Palace a share of the points.

Palace currently sit 12th in PL2, having collected 14 points from eight matches – level with Leicester City and Wolverhampton Wanderers. The campaign to date has yielded four wins, two draws and two defeats.

The table remains tightly packed. Just four points separate Palace from third-placed Fulham, while leaders Ipswich Town hold an eight-point advantage at the summit. At the opposite end, Leeds United sit 17th on 11 points – the current cut-off for the new cross-category play-offs.

League action resumes for Palace on Saturday (10 January, 13:00 GMT), with the young Eagles travelling to face Chelsea.

During the interim period, Palace impressed in the Premier League International Cup, recording notable victories over Juventus and FC Nordsjaelland, while also contesting friendly fixtures against Bournemouth, Notts County and Marseille.

Players and staff then departed for the winter break, returning refreshed and ready for a demanding run of league fixtures in the months ahead.

### Chelsea FC

Chelsea currently sit fourth in Premier League 2, four points behind leaders Ipswich Town. The Blues made a strong start to the campaign under Calum McFarlane, and will be keen to rediscover that early momentum with Harry Hudson now at the helm.

The club opened the season in emphatic fashion, defeating reigning champions Manchester City 3-1 in their curtain-raiser at Kingsmeadow, courtesy of a Shumaira Mheuka hat-trick. That was followed by a commanding 5-0 away win at Newcastle United, before August concluded with another victory on the road at Aston Villa, leaving Chelsea with a 100% record heading into the September international break.

Their unbeaten run came to an end against Ipswich in an entertaining contest, before a narrow defeat to Stoke City later that month. Since then, Chelsea have responded positively, recording notable wins over Burnley and Arsenal, while a frustrating defeat at Everton briefly disrupted momentum.

Chelsea rounded off the first half of the season with a convincing 4-1 home victory over Reading, thanks to a dominant attacking display.

Elsewhere, the Blues were eliminated from the EFL Trophy after a penalty shootout defeat to League Two high-flyers Walsall. However, they impressed in the UEFA Youth League, topping their group with 16 points after victories over Bayern Munich, Benfica, Ajax, Qarabag and Atalanta, along with a draw against Barcelona – five wins from six to secure progression to the knockout stages.

Their International Cup campaign has proved more challenging, with defeats to Dinamo Zagreb, Paris Saint-Germain and Benfica.

Chelsea also boast an outstanding pedigree at youth level, having won Premier League 2 twice, lifted the UEFA Youth League on two occasions, and secured back-to-back FA Youth Cup triumphs.

With the January transfer window open, Axel Disasi is unlikely to feature having attracted interest elsewhere. Justin Osagie could therefore be drafted into the defensive line. In attack, competition for places remains strong, with Deivid Washington, Sol Gordon and Dujuan Richards all pushing for inclusion.

### Key Player – Shumaira Mheuka

Mheuka has been a consistent attacking presence for Chelsea at U21 level this season, combining physicality with intelligent movement and a strong goalscoring instinct. The striker has netted seven goals in Premier League 2 so far, placing him among the division’s leading scorers.

The England youth international captained the Blues U21s earlier in the campaign and made an immediate impact, scoring four goals in his opening three league matches before being named Premier League 2 Player of the Month for August.

Mheuka has also gained valuable experience across multiple competitions, featuring in the UEFA Youth League and making senior appearances in European competition. On the international stage, he has continued to impress, scoring regularly for England U19s during the autumn.

A powerful presence in the box and a threat both in open play and from crosses, Mheuka will be one of Chelsea’s key attacking outlets on Saturday.

### The Gaffer – Harry Hudson

Callum McFarlane will not return to his role as U21s head coach following a period in caretaker charge of Chelsea’s first team, he will instead join Liam Rosenior's coaching staff.

Harry Hudson, meanwhile, has been promoted from the U18 coaching staff to lead the U21s, like McFarlane, he joined Chelsea last summer. 

Hudson's background includes spells at Sevenoaks Town, Whyteleafe FC and Croydon FC, before moving into academy football with Brentford and later Wycombe Wanderers. 

He is also the co-founder of the Kinetic Foundation, a charity supporting young people into education, employment and training.

It's been nearly three weeks since Cato and Palace last played, when they took on Arsenal on the 21st December in the Subway Women's League Cup quarter-final.

The team returned from their winter break recently, and Cato spoke about how she celebrated Christmas and New Years.

She said: "My Christmas and New Year’s Eve was fantastic. I went home to Sweden and spent some time with my family. 

"We usually celebrate Christmas on Christmas Eve, and one tradition is that we watch Donald Duck and similar cartoons at 3pm - after we have been eating some Christmas food!

"On New Year’s Eve, I was with my mum, boyfriend and a friend. We made some dinner and played games, then we watched the fireworks."

After a few weeks away from the pitch, Cato is looking forward to getting back on the grass again.

"I’m so excited to get back playing. It felt good to go on Christmas break with some good results in the last games but now I’m very excited and ready to keep the good work up and get some more points," she said.

Cato spoke about the challenge the Blades pose, highlighting the fact that if Palace maintain their recent level, then they could secure a positive result in South Yorkshire.

"We know it’s gonna be a tough game, like the last time we played against them. 

"They’re a difficult team to play against but I really think that if we play like we have been doing over the last few weeks, I hope the three points will come home with us," Cato said.

Victory on Monday could see Palace climb into a play-off position for the first time this season, but Cato is just taking each game as it comes.

She said: "I’m not looking so much at the table, I believe and think that if we do our job each day in training and take the points in our games then we don’t have to look at the table or the other teams. 

"So really, let's just take it game by game and do our absolute best in every training session and we see how far we can go."

Cato and the team will next play at home on Sunday, 25th January against Durham at the VBS Community Stadium in Sutton.

#### Entering the stadium

**Turnstiles will open at 10:30 GMT.**

**We strongly advise supporters to arrive at the stadium as early as possible**, to allow time for searching and smooth entry into the ground. 

For security reasons, supporters will receive a search at the stadium. **We are expecting searching stations to be extremely busy** and queues are expected, so please arrive early to avoid unnecessary wait times.

There will be full scale searches upon entry and a search dog presence, actively detecting any banned goods.

#### Other points to note

- **Supporters are reminded to keep off the pitch at all times. Perpetrators may be prosecuted.**

- **For the safety of all supporters, it is illegal to use flares, flash bangs and other pyrotechnics at the stadium.**

- The use of both cigarettes and all types of electronic cigarettes (including vapes) is not permitted anywhere on the stadium campus.

- For security reasons, you will receive a body search and any bag you arrive with will be searched at the stadium. **Fans are strongly advised to arrive early at the stadium to allow enough time for necessary security checks**.

- **No large bags are permitted for security purposes.**

- Glass vessels, weapons, laser devices, illegal substances, pyrotechnics and dangerous/hazardous items are banned from the stadium.

- Fans are not permitted to drink in view of the pitch. All areas where alcohol can be purchased will be covered entirely. Fans can drink alcohol in these areas, but cannot take this out in to the stands.

- **Discriminatory language or abusive chanting is not acceptable and will not be tolerated.** Supporters are asked to report any incidents during the match when possible by speaking to their nearest steward.

My 62nd birthday fell on 17/05/2025. What better gift could there be than an incredible and historic FA Cup win for my beloved Crystal Palace? 1979 at home to Burnley, I was there. 1990 Semi-Final vs Liverpool at Villa Park, I was there. The finals in 1990 (including replay) and 2016, I was there. 

The 1990 Final was the first, so had a feeling all of its own. Wimbledon had achieved success in 1988 so why not us in 1990? But I never truly felt it would happen for us, neither in my head nor my heart. 

The 2016 Final against Manchester United once again felt different. We were underdogs but almost never shook that from our heads. I was probably not the only Palace fan that knew a Palace goal would be cancelled out (and worse) by a United response. 

2025\. Third time lucky? You bet. I can now reveal that I never had any doubt whatsoever that we would win the Cup. I chose my words very carefully when chatting to friends and family before the game. But I knew, I just knew. We have the perfect blend of togetherness, confidence, passion, belief and so much more. All pulling together for victory. 

It was special to watch the game with my son, Matt and other family members.

I went with my Grandad. He is 87 years young and has been a lifelong Palace fan. In fact, his father and father-in-law were Palace supporters too, meaning it’s been in our family since the 1900s!

We knew Palace were going to win. There was not a doubt in our minds that they wouldn’t. We have come so far and it was only right to finish the season off in this way. The atmosphere was absolutely fantastic, the fans were so organised and put on the best display for the team. This is what encourages the team. Day in, day out, the Palace fans always show up.

My Grandad was, of course, over the moon, and I’m so grateful I got to experience it with him. It’s so magical to think of the all the angel Eagles watching down too, enjoying their team win a trophy.

I don’t know why everyone was so worried. I have known with absolute certainty, since January, that Palace would win the FA Cup this season. 

Was it because of the fantastic group of players that we have, or was it because of our wonderful manager? No. Was it because of the glorious run of form we embarked on after Christmas, or because of the amazing supporters that this club has? No, it was none of those things, although they are obviously all true. 

It was because I knew that my son Tom was marrying Selina on Saturday 17th May, and so there was no chance I could be at the Final!

Having been to Wembley with Palace for every previous Cup Final, Replay, Semi-Final, Play-Off Final and even the ZDS triumph, I knew that I couldn’t be there this time, and inevitably, Palace would choose this year to finally fulfil my dream of us lifting the trophy – a dream that I had held since I saw my first game at Selhurst Park in 1971. 

So I cruised serenely through this year’s FA Cup campaign, knowing that Palace were going to win. I was at the semi-final against Aston Villa, but on Cup Final Day itself, I was at my son’s wedding, sitting next to the Best Man, who is a City supporter. I was relying on score updates to let me know what was happening, whilst refusing to watch on anyone’s phone in case I jinxed the spell as Palace magnificently defended their lead. 

I finally relented to watch the final 30 seconds on my nephew Charlie’s phone, in order to enjoy the moment of pure elation when the final whistle blew. 

What a moment! What a day!

My lasting memory (apart from the result) will be the added joy, laughs and smiles I bought to people having their photos taken with me.

For such a simple idea i was a conversation starter and a good luck charm for adults and children throughout the day.

When I was first seen by Palace fans on the train from Salfords (Redhill), I knew that I was going to get a lot of attention, so I decided to tour the train carriages. I was kissed, patted, photographed, sung to, worshipped, you name it – and that was just before Charing Cross!

As the crowds drew bigger at Covent Garden, so did the attention. Finally at Wembley, and being allowed on the stage at the fan park, it was an amazing feeling and experience and with the countless photo requests throughout the day I hope that I provided a lasting memory to a lot of fans out there, as did  to me!

As the 100th minute approached and Jeremy Doku's shot went wide, I felt the uncontrollable urge to cry. We have waited so long for this day and for it to finally come to fruition was something special, something money can't buy. 

I got to celebrate this day not only with 35000 other Palace fans, but with my entire family, but being being able to celebrate by hugging my dad and baby brother was something special. I support CPFC because my Granddad did. He died of prostate cancer nearly 20 years ago, and I knew when that final whistle went that he was looking down watching Marc and Joel lift the trophy.

Walking back to the train station we walked side by side, knowing that nothing will ever top this feeling... absolutely nothing.

I was so confident that we were going to win the FA Cup, I travelled to the club shop with my son Cameron on FA Cup Final Eve to get my shirt printed for the big day! 

Cameron said: "Are you sure, Dad? If they lose, you’ll get the blame!" I said: "We won’t lose, don’t worry!" 

I posted on social media a picture of myself and the shirt, saying we had to put it out there to the universe that we were going to win. I got a lot of heat on all social platforms, so decided to wear the shirt underneath my 1991 Palace shirt I was wearing for the big day! 

Walking to Wembley, I had a lot of fans asking me where the shirt was. I informed them not to worry – it was on! At the final whistle, I whipped off my Bukta Palace shirt to reveal my 'FA CUP WINNERS SHIRT'!

It was exactly one year ago that I took my seven-year-old son to his first ever game at Selhurst Park – the final game of the season. We couldn’t believe it: a 5–0 victory over Aston Villa, and to top it all off, he got his photo in the matchday programme’s noticeboard for his debut match. He was absolutely thrilled.

For various reasons, we couldn’t make it to any games in the first half of this season, and it wasn’t until the Ipswich match that we returned – an interesting fixture for our family, as all my wife’s relatives are Ipswich fans and were sat firmly in the away end. Nevertheless, we prevailed, and it was two wins out of two for him.

Next up was the Brighton match at Selhurst… and we all know what happened there. He’d certainly seen a few incidents in his short time as a Palace supporter – but even I had never witnessed three sendings off and a win with just nine men! It was a remarkable evening. Three games, three wins.

Then came the FA Cup. We managed to get tickets for the semi-final – and of course, Palace won. That made it four wins from four for him.

I was teaching a tutorial class on the day tickets for the final went on sale. It was a tense moment as I reached the front of the queue and secured tickets for us both – much to the delight of my students, who all cheered when I confirmed the purchase! And so off we went to the final. Surely he couldn’t make it five wins from five? Could he?

For me, it's been 44 years of waiting for a trophy. For him, it's been one season – and an enviable five wins from the five matches he’s attended. Is he a lucky mascot? He has no idea what it’s like to endure a grim 0–0 draw in the freezing cold on a Tuesday night in February, in a ground with more empty seats than optimism.

Father-son days like the Cup Final are what Crystal Palace is all about – building memories as a family, and with total strangers who embraced him, celebrated with him, and still kept an eye out for the little lad in the jubilant scenes at the end. He’ll never forget last weekend. Neither will I. Thank you to everyone at the club.

I wanted to share a story that reflects what Crystal Palace means to my family and me.

After relocating to Singapore in January, I knew I couldn’t miss the FA Cup Final. Late Friday night, I boarded a 13.5-hour flight from Singapore to London, arriving Saturday morning. I met up with my son Reece, a season ticket holder, and we made our way to Wembley.

What followed was one of the most emotional two hours of my life – right up there with my wedding day and the birth of my three boys. Watching the Eagles lift the FA Cup with my son beside me was unforgettable. After the celebrations, I flew 14 hours back to Singapore, landing at 8am Monday – just in time for work.

But this story goes beyond football. My late father-in-law, a lifelong Palace fan, introduced my son to Selhurst Park and nurtured his love for the club. When he passed away five years ago, I took on the responsibility of carrying that tradition forward. After years of chasing tickets, we eventually became season ticket holders – and now we never miss a home game.

Standing beside my son at Wembley, I couldn’t help but feel my father-in-law’s presence. I know he would have been proud to see us both there, celebrating a moment we’ll never forget.

Thank you for giving fans like us something truly special to believe in.

An incredible day. Lucky enough to get a ticket next to an old friend. The nerves on the train and walking up to Wembley replaced by excitement and confidence as the noise grew from our supporters both outside and inside the stadium. The wall of red and blue was jaw dropping and deafening.

Flags were waved. Songs were sung.

Eze scores! Screaming, jumping, hugging, faces held, voices lost. Penalty saved! More screaming, more jumping!

The match itself is a blur. Big moments and big performances rotate in the memory.

120 years. 100 minutes, the final whistle.  We did it. We really did it, all of us together.

My Wembley trip was always going to be an emotional one. In September last year, we lost my Dad to cancer. He and I were season ticket holders, and he was the reason I fell in love with Palace – from my first game as a five-year-old, at home to Port Vale. I couldn’t have asked for a better relationship with my Dad, and so much of that was built around Palace.

As heartbreaking as it is that he missed us winning the cup by a few months, I now have my own five-year-old: Amelie. She has filled a massive gap in my Palace-loving life, coming with me to Selhurst this season. Standing with her, singing *Abide With Me* – a song we last sung at Dad’s funeral – before kick-off, and hearing her belt out *Glad All Over*, proudly wearing Grandad’s scarf, was special. I watched her take in the moment of collective elation on full-time, and could tell she was blown away by it all. 

I got to watch the lads on the pitch lift the cup, but also get to see Amelie falling in love with Palace – the embodiment of the semi-final Tifo – which is worth a million FA Cups!

The following day, we had a trip to my Brighton-supporting father-in-laws. “*I know a song about Brighton,*” she said. “*Oh, Andy Johnson’s magic…*”

We need to refine some of the lyrics to that particular song before it gets taken to school…

On Saturday lunchtime, our defence of the FA Cup – as trophy holders – begins at Macclesfield. In the WSL2, Palace Women played two and won two in December, beating second-place Birmingham City 3-0 at home before winning 3-2 away at third-place Bristol City.

Six points in December saw Palace climb to fifth in the table, with Potter's side now just three points off of a play-off position.

Upon receiving the award, Potter said: "We knew what a tough last week that was going to be before the Christmas break, but I think it's a credit to my staff, first and foremost, and to every single player that was in and around the squad.

"I think it was deserved for the whole team and the whole squad."

The award was decided by an independent panel consisting of LMA Members, pundits, former professional players, and journalists from across the women’s game.

### How to Report Abuse

The Premier League and Crystal Palace urge anyone who witnesses abuse to report it, either to the nearest steward, police officer or to our confidential text service on **07507 477 669**.

Please include as much relevant information as possible, for example: RACISM, SMOKING, HOMOPHOBIA etc. Please include the stand, block, row and seat number you are in, and also identify the location of the anti- social behaviour, being as precise as possible. Please state if you wish to remain anonymous in your message.

Security staff will make every effort to deal with the issue. If they are unable to resolve the issue, each text will be followed up and investigated by a club staff member. You can also contact your nearest steward to report issues, who will do their best to help.

Anybody found guilty of discriminatory abuse towards any club employee, player, match official or supporter will receive an automatic club ban and may face criminal prosecution. The League and clubs are committed to working with the authorities to bring offenders to justice.

How to enter Selhurst Park

**Mobile phone chargers are available at the Information Centre on a matchday,** should you need to use them to access your ticket.

### Bag policy

Supporters are permitted to bring bags into Selhurst Park, **provided that they are small enough to fit safely beneath your seat.**

Larger bags will need to be dropped off at the **dedicated bag drop facility** located in the main car park, at the information point. This facility will be managed by the Crystal Palace staff and is free of charge.

Please note that supporters will be required to remove all lids from bottles of 500ml or less before entering Selhurst Park. Bottles over 500ml are not permitted.

### Fanzone

Our **Fanzone** will be open from 16:30 GMT ahead of the match, with entertainment, music, refreshments all ready to enrich your pre-match experience.

Having returned to the team exactly a month ago in the 2-1 win over Fulham at Craven Cottage, Clyney gives us an insight into how he returned to the side, in particular how Oliver Glasner's training sessions ensured he was ready to go when called upon.

Macclesfield warmed up for Saturday's tie with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Radcliffe on Tuesday night, after they had ended 2025 with back-to-back league defeats.

In his post-match interview following that game **manager John Rooney** said it was a brilliant achievement for his side to reach this stage of the cup and that they wouldn't let the opportunity pass them by.

"Welcoming the FA Cup holders here," he said. "It's going to be a brilliant occasion for the fans and for everyone involved and for myself and for the players.

"It's going to be a special day and I think the fans deserve it as well, for everything they've given us.

"They've gone home and away every week, whatever the weather, spending their hard-earned money around Christmas.

"We don't take that for granted. The lads know and we always touch on it.

"Since the club reformed, I don't think we've really been on that much of a run in the FA Cup. So to get the club to the third-round is a great achievement.

"It's a great achievement for me in my first role as manager. But for the players as well, I don't think many of them will have played in the third-round before.

"So it'll be a great occasion for them as well, one we're all looking forward to."

**Macclesfield 'keeper Max Dearnley added**: "I think all the boys are buzzing \[for the game against Palace\].

"I can't wait for Saturday now and hopefully we'll give the fans a performance that the deserve. That win \[against Radcliffe\] should give us some belief that we can go and possibly get something from the game.

"I think the gaffer will tell us to enjoy it. A lot of the lads might not get this opportunity again. So everyone needs to grasp it, give it their all and see what we can do.

"A lot of the lads have never played in the third-round. So let's all go and enjoy it and see what we can do."

### **Macclesfield Team News**

Macclesfield are still without full-back Brandon Lee, who sustained a leg injury in the previous round against Slough last month.

Former Man United defender Cameron Borthwick-Jackson made his debut for the Silkmen as a substitute in midweek and could behanded his first start for the club on Saturday. Midfielder and fellow new recruit Mikey Stone, who recently joined from Altrincham is another pushing to be involved.

### **Their Season So Far...**

Macclesfield have adapted well to their first season in the sixth-tier at the halfway point. After 22 league games they sit 14th in the table, but just three points off seventh place, the final play-off spot at this level.

A healthy 11 points clear of Alfreton Town, who lie in the final relegation zone spot, Macclesfield can enter the second-half of the campaign free from any relegation fears.

They did suffer back-to-back defeats to against Buxton and Chester after Christmas, without scoring. But they hit back with the aforementioned 2-1 win over Radcliffe in their final league game before the visit of Palace.

The Silkmen defeated a team currently lying the in the play-off place courtesy of goals from Isaac Buckley-Ricketts and Paul Dawson.

In the FA Cup they have already made it through five ties to reach this stage, having seen off Atherton Laburnum Rovers, Nantwich Town, Stamford AFC, AFC Totton and Slough Town. 

Macclesfield are not the only side from the sixth tier to reach this stage, with National League South outfit Weston-Super-Mare also involved and handed an away tie against Grimsby Town.

The Silkmen also have a stake in the FA Trophy ahead of the fourth-round. They travel to Woking on Tuesday for a place in the last 16.

### **The Boss: John Rooney**

Rooney took the Macclesfield job last summer, following Robbie Savage's sudden departure to Forest Green Rovers.

The younger brother of England legend Wayne, John enjoyed a successful 17-year playing career, which both started and ended at Macclesfield.

However between his two spells as a player, he also turned out for the likes of Wrexham, Stockport County – and even New York Red Bulls.

Rooney retired at the end of the 2024/25 season having helped the Silkmen to promotion from the Northern Premier League as champions. He then became manager at Moss Rose just over a month later.

### **Both sides of the fence**

Neil Danns ended his 23-playing career at Macclesfield with a two season stay between 2021 and 2023. 

Initially signing as a player on non-contract terms, he was made interim player-manager the following year. Danns helped the Silkmen rise from the ninth to seventh tier during his time at the club as they achieved back-to-back promotions.

Danns made over a century of league appearances for the Eagles between 2008 and 2011, scoring 21 goals for the club.

View from the Opposition: Macclesfield boss Rooney on chance to meet Cup holders

The Silkmen, the lowest-ranked side in the competition’s last 64, have reached this stage of the contest having initially entered at the Second Qualifying Round following promotion to the National League North last season.

Macclesfield’s story, to this point, [is quite remarkable](https://www.cpfc.co.uk/news/match-previews/get-to-know-macclesfield-fc/) – and who knows what football could throw our way at the Leasing.com Stadium.

Palace might, indeed, take heed: Saturday marks the first meeting between the FA Cup holders and a non-league team since the 2004/05 season – and on that occasion, Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United were held to a 0-0 draw at Old Trafford against Conference National side Exeter City, although the Red Devils then won the replay 2-0.

Even more intriguingly, it was Palace themselves who were the last non-league club to eliminate the FA Cup holders – as a Southern League club, knocking out Wolverhampton Wanderers in January 1909. It is a record we will not wish to lose.

#### Taking on Tier Six

With this officially being the first time we have ever played a sixth-tier team (as the National Leagues North and South were only formed in 2004), it appears to be our largest difference – in terms of divisions between teams – in our history.

Indeed, our record books appear to show that this is the first time that we, as a top-flight club, have faced a team from the sixth tier.

There is, as always, an edge case: in December 1976, Third Division Palace were drawn away to Enfield in a Second Round tie.

Enfield were in the Isthmian League at the time (having won the league that season), and with the league ranked lower than the Northern and Southern Leagues, the Isthmian League could be considered ‘tier six’ – but, with Palace then in the Third Division themselves, the difference in divisions was less than Saturday's game.

The game was actually played at Selhurst Park after Enfield agreed to move it, and a crowd of 13,570 witnessed a 4-0 win for Palace.

Our last meeting with a tier-five team came in a third-round win at National League outfit Dover Athletic in January 2015, the Eagles triumphing 4-0 on that occasion.

More simply put: it is – stating this with humility, modesty and respect for our opponents fully intended, but to sate our curiosity – the biggest lead Palace appear to have ever had over an opponent in terms of rankings in the Football League ladder. 13th place in the Premier League is 117 league table positions above Macclesfield (14th in National League North).

However, Palace will not be over-confident – in the FA Cup, we have all come to expect the unexpected, and the Silkmen’s journey to this stage has already proven nothing short of sensational.

The Eagles will need to be at their best to win in Cheshire.

As Manager Oliver Glasner stated in his pre-match press conference: “Of course, we want to extend the next FA Cup journey as long as possible. But I always say, don't make the second step before the first one.

“The first one is now Macclesfield. As I mentioned, Astro and Non-League football. Maybe it's their match of the decade, so this is what we have to accept.

“But on the other side, it's clear: if we go there, we have to win there. It depends on our attitude.”

As with last season, **there are no replays** in 'proper' rounds of the FA Cup. 

Ties that are level after 90 minutes will go to **extra-time (30 minutes)** and then **a penalty shootout** if the teams are still level.

Palace will travel to face the National League North side – who play in step six of the English football pyramid – on Saturday afternoon for a 12:15 GMT kick-off at the Leasing.com Stadium, which features an artificial turf.

With that in mind, Glasner confirmed in his pre-match press conference that **Mateta** would remain in London to rest, whilst also confirming that captain **Marc Guéhi** would start the fixture.

No one is coming back. **Chris \[Richards\]** is back, but he was in the squad against Aston Villa \[on Wednesday\].

**JP \[Mateta\]** will not travel with us. We’ll give him a rest, not playing on astro. We’ve talked about some issues with his knee. Everything’s under control but we don’t want to risk that he plays on astro and it gets worse, that’s why he stays in London.

*\[Will that be a problem next week?\]* No, I don’t think so.

We want to win another trophy. This is our approach. It's not defending something, it's winning something.
