After Harry Maguire’s pre-tournament injury, Guéhi has earned a place in Gareth Southgate’s starting line-up for the Euros, and started as he hopes to go on by securing a clean sheet in the group stage opener.
His performance was highlighted by Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham, who continued a remarkable personal season – having lifted the Champions League at Wembley just days ago – by scoring a thumping header to earn the Three Lions maximum points.
“He was brilliant – brilliant,” Bellingham emphasised when asked about Guéhi’s first tournament start in an England shirt.
